To ensure a proper installation, the top rail of the door must be wide enough to accommodate the closer body. However, if your door's top rail isn't wide enough, a mounting plate can be used to provide a secure and reliable installation.

When the top rail of your door is narrow and the closer needs to be installed on the push side of the opening, the top jamb mounting option is the ideal choice.
