The inspiration behind the Touch 'n Hold door closer came from the inventor's personal experiences. Years ago, the inventor had a young daughter who was prone to getting her fingers pinched while trying to keep their old screen door open. Her distressed cries prompted the inventor to find a solution.

The inventor also observed his elderly mother struggling to bend down and fiddle with the washer mechanism to keep the door open while doing chores around the house. Her bad back and arthritic hands made this task particularly challenging, and she would often express her discomfort.

Leveraging his background as an aeronautical engineer, the inventor set out to create a more user-friendly door closer, ultimately developing what some have called "the world's most convenient door closer" and even "the best invention since sliced bread."
